I just received this via email forward and with our amazing Cardinals going to the Superbowl- this is a story that needs to be heard:
One night in 1992 at a country bar, Northern Iowa's starting quarterback fell in love with an older woman. They talked for awhile, and after she told him how her husband had left her with two children, one who was disabled, you could imagine her surprise when he came by the next morning with roses and wanted to meet her youngsters. Her son, Zachary, had a series of serious physical infirmities due to an accident when he was four months old. His father dropped him, and in the blink of an eye, this previously healthy baby was suddenly clinging to life. He suffered severe brain damage, and both of his retinas were ruptured. His recovery has been long and arduous, but he now walks and talks and no longer strictly a special-needs student. So after marrying the lovely girl he met in the country bar, this football star adopted Zachary and his sister Jesse in 1997. The Kurt Warner Family has since added five more children to their clan. Kurt endured many setbacks trying to get into the NFL: 1994 he was signed and cut in the same year by the Packers (he then went to work for $5.50/hour in a grocery store), and then a tryout for the Chicago Bears fell through when he was bitten by a venomous spider. He finally got his break when he signed with the Rams in 1997. When the Rams won the NFC Championship game in 2000, Zachary presented Kurt with a homemade card done in Rams blue and gold. Inside, in childlike scrawl, it read: "You're as good a dad as you are a quarterback!" Rumor has it that when the Warners go out to eat, he has one of his children pick out a family eating at the restaurant. Kurt then tells the wait staff he is picking up the tab for that family's dinner annonimously. He remembers the days he was working nights in the grocery store and feeding his family on food stamps.
