So apparently Britney Spears has discovered a new lollipop to help her lose weight. The pops contain a compound known as "Hoodia" which apparently helps to curb your appetite. So again, back to the scientific journals I go! Yes, it is true, this compound has been isolated down to a glycoside (P57 to be exact) and it does have appetite suppression properties. Would I advise my family and friends to invest in this product- NO. The problem is, just because it is herbal does not mean it is safe. Many herbal products are sold on the market and they don't have FDA approval- as long as they say those magic words, "this statement has not been approved by the Federal Drug Administration", they can sell it!
My advice to Britney, and to the rest of you looking for the cure to weight loss? Stay away from the drive-thru, seek out fruits and vegetables as the base of your diet, drink plenty of fluids, keep your body moving, and try a lollipop of ours to keep your mouth busy. As I stated in a previous post, Charms Mini Pops and Tootsie Roll Miniature Pops are only 17 calories and 3 grams of sugar.
