New Year's Eve Ideas for the Kids!

With Christmas quickly approaching it is time to start thinking about New Year’s Eve!  It is always a challenge with the little kiddos around, but I found some great suggestions online and if you pair it up with an amazing selection of super fun candy you just might get your kids to say you are the coolest parent ever!!

    *Allow kids to have their own special space to decorate with balloons and streamers!

    *Set up a table with cool and unusual art supplies

*Create a movie area for the kids with a large selection of DVD’s, popcorn and of course candy!   Try some fun Nostalgic candy like gummi hamburgers, gummi hotdogs, Lotsa Fizz, Pixy Stix, Candy Rings and so much more!

*For the older kids you could create a video game area and let them play Rock Band or Dance Revolution until they drop!

One last touch to let the kids join the fun is to get some sparkling cider for toasting time!  The kids can get in on the resolutions too!

The kids will have a great time and so will you!  Don’t forget candy for the adults!  Werther’s Original Candy in the gold wrapper are beautiful for centerpieces or scattered around a table.  And what would ringing in the New Year be like without chocolate?  Dove Chocolate Promises, Hershey Kisses, Ghirardelli Dark Caramel Squares to again just name a few!

Santa Sighting!

SANTA SIGHTING!!  In probably the last place you would think..ARIZONA!!   Santa just had to check out Southwest Candy in Arizona to stock up on the candy he is going to put in all of the good little boys' and girls' stockings! 

Maybe if the big boys and girls have been good this year they will get some too!  Santa said he had to come all the way to Arizona because he heard from Rudolph that Southwest Candy has the best deals on Candy Canes and a HUGE variety of other candy for the holidays too!  Santa said that everyone at Southwest Candy was so nice and helpful that we are going to get something extra special in our stockings too! J  What a great time we had helping Santa! 

Next stop: Sweet Services in Chicago, IL! Hope Santa doesn't get snowed in over there!

Thanksgiving Place Cards

So Halloween is over and the kids are just about down from their sugar high, but no rest for the weary!  We have officially entered Holiday Season!   I was just having the debate with my sister about how to fit our ever expanding family into our mother’s house for Thanksgiving dinner and the topic of place cards came up.  As I usually do I went walking around Southwest Candy to find a new way to change up the old tradition of boring place cards.  We have so many adorable Gourmet Lollipops that would look great with a place card tied to them.  Check out our Twinkle Star, Swirl, Butterfly and Flower Pops!  You can be hip with the kids with our Groovy Flower and Fruit Pops too!  Don’t forget the amazing Whirly Pops that will add great color to any Turkey Dinner!  So the seating arrangements may be a bit stressful, but once your family and friends see the fun and happiness attached to their name they will know it is going to be a very fun and memorable meal!

A Candy Story

One of our readers shared a sweet candy story as her comment on one of my blogs. I thought I would share it with you:

I myself have a "smile about" story---when mom was in an "assisted living facility" I used to visit her daily. One of the residents "Freddie" looked for me religiously and would yell out "CANDY LADY"--here comes the "CANDY LADY"---he would continue until I would "sneak" him a piece of candy (it had to be chocolate).Then, of course, all of the residents came to look for some little treat when I came in.

This went on for a couple of years, then---Freddie passed away and at his wake, I slipped a piece of chocolate candy in his pocket--his family knew immediately who I was and told me how happy that little piece of chocolate made him.

Candy Dish Diaries

In our monthly newsletter, I had asked our customers to share with us how they would describe our company and our products. Here are some funny "Candy Dish" stories sent by our customers:

Student at candy bowl with big grin: "Thanks for putting these out.  I love coming here & getting these."  And he took a single Tootsie Pop.

 

 

I had a conversation at the reference desk with one of our candy loyalists about the best kind of candy valentine hearts.  He prefers Necco brand.  And he confided a passion for Necco wafers, which I share.  He said he wrote the company a letter when he was 12 telling them how much he liked them and they sent him back a bunch of candy.  Now the best part: he wished me a happy valentine's day. 

Moral of this story: good things can happen at the reference desk after 4:00 pm on Friday.

 

 

A young man, laden with two textbooks, lingered over the candy dish until I finally said "it's ok to take two". "Don't tell anybody" he grinned, picked out his two candies then said, sweetly, "Thank you for putting this out. It always makes my day."  Ooooh I just love the candy dish.
