One of our readers shared a sweet candy story as her comment on one of my blogs. I thought I would share it with you:
I myself have a "smile about" story---when mom was in an "assisted living facility" I used to visit her daily. One of the residents "Freddie" looked for me religiously and would yell out "CANDY LADY"--here comes the "CANDY LADY"---he would continue until I would "sneak" him a piece of candy (it had to be chocolate). Then, of course, all of the residents came to look for some little treat when I came in.
This went on for a couple of years, then---Freddie passed away and at his wake, I slipped a piece of chocolate candy in his pocket--his family knew immediately who I was and told me how happy that little piece of chocolate made him.
"CANDY DOES A BODY & MIND GOOD!"
SUCH A FEEL GOOD STORY

THIS STORY MADE ME FEEL GOOD ON HOW JUST A PIECE OF CANDY CAN MAKE SOMEONE'S DAY AND OTHERS AS WELL.

What a cute story - It's great to do whatever you can to cheer up our elderly. I used to bring our little Maltese dog to the facility when I'd visit my mom who had Alzheimers and ALL the patients loved it. Linda

Thanks for sharing the story! Candy is definitely a "comfort" food.

Thanks for sharing this. Today, these retro sweets can even be more appreciated beyond their sugar. They are still, in fact, herbs that treat a whole range of conditions from the common cough to name some.

Maybe that's why we all love retro sweets so much, and the memories they bring tumbling back. As well as the sweets themselves, I think it's having that decision making power as a child that we all miss.
